The second step is to check whether or not they have a Close Protection (CP) course coming up or even, if they still run CP courses. You will see a lot of certified companies that CAN run courses, but the fact is many don't run courses because they don't get enough people wanting to book on their courses. This may be down a number of factors, but we believe 'word of mouth' can be the greatest factor. Run great courses and word will spread, run bad courses and word will spread. It's like most things, you find something good and you will share it, if it's bad you'll warn people off. Finding a provider that's been around for a while, and been running CP courses regularly should be your aim........
Once you have a shortlist of training providers that are well established and have CP courses running regularly you should research them. Like I said before, ask people who have been on the course is probably the best way to see if the course is any good. If this is not possible, phone the company offering the training and ask who the instructors are, what experience do they have and double check if they are qualified to train you. Use the internet, look for online reviews or comments about the company.
Your shortlist must be getting a little shorter now, let's try to make it even shorter.

There are rules that govern the amount of trainees that can be on each course, no more than 12 trainees per qualified instructor.

-Ask what the training facilities are like, where are they located and type of terrain
Practical exercises should allow for outdoor training (urban, rural, woods, city).
-Ask what their pass rate is
If the trainee pass rate is very low or very high ask why.
-Ask how much time will be guided learn

-Ask who their awarding body is
You could speak their awarding body and make inquires to double check information you have been told.
Hopefully by now you will only have 1-2 on your list.
You could check their website, Twitter account or Facebook, to see if the company is active in the CP community, speaks to past trainees or other people in the CP industry.
Never just go by price, its important but effective training could be priceless once you go operational. Having the right training is key to staying out of danger and your path out of danger if necessary.
