The CPO qualities.

Being a Close Protection Officer is about more than a career. It is a calling. It is for only the very elite few who can handle the stresses of the life and being which follows.

This article runs through the 8 important characteristics every CPO needs to make it in this industry;
Physical & Mental Health- Close Protection Officers must be physically fit and without any medical or mental problems. Officers should have no history of substance dependency, which may impair their operational performance. In most cases, they are under the normal age of retirement.
Highly Skilled A military background is optimal for employment as a Close Protection Officer, but not yet a requirement. An excellent driving record and the completion of numerous personal and skill trainings are invaluable for this line of work. Technological skills would also be beneficial.
Integrity – One of your job requirements is to ensure your client’s privacy and well-being at all times, even after the job is complete. While others may drop names or discuss their work, a Close Protection Officer does not discuss the clientele, or compromise the nature and confidentiality of their work. Events involving your clients should not surface on the internet or other media sources.
Dedicated- A Close Protection Officer is always on duty, the needs of the client surpassing your own. There is no ‘calling in’ or leaving early. Committed to your work, you finish every task that is handed to you.
Professional- Close Protection Officers have an appearance and reputation to consider at all times.
Appearance should represent your occupation and qualifications at all times. Officers are very cautious regarding their personal reputation, and the company they keep.

Intuitive- Close Protection Officers have keen insight and the ability to ‘expect the unexpected’ through much training and experience. This ability to look ahead protects both your client and fellow officers.
Flexible - Close Protection Officers must work under arduous conditions and with a limited amount of support. They require the ability to cope with extended periods of separation from their family and home environment.
Articulable- Although it is often more important to be silent, a Close Protection Officer must also possess the ability to communicate effectively. Excellent negotiating skills and the ability to work professionally in a stressful and diverse environment will be required.
